Dark Chocolate vs Milk Chocolate
My Opinion
Dark Chocolate vs Milk Chocolate
In my search for healthy eating, I did not want to eliminate chocolate, since it is a happy food and makes me smile. My problem was all the sugar in milk chocolate was creating havoc with my husband's bloods sugar.
We both wanted to continue eating what we love, but not harm our health. So we researched and found that dark chocolate, over 70% has heart healthy benefits and much less sugar than milk chocolate.
Dark chocolate can be bitter and not a smooth as milk chocolate, but if you start with lower percentages of dark and gradually work your way to 70% and above you will be rewarded with better health and lots of great taste and a candy you can eat without worrying about what it is doing to your health.
Chocolate Choices - Pick the One you Love
I know it is not easy to change from something you love to something you think is good for you, so I would like to know what type of chocolate do you usually eat?
What Kind of Chocolate Do You Usually Eat?
What is White Chocolate
Do You Really Want to Know
I am sorry to say that white chocolate is not technically chocolate. In order to be labeled chocolate, it must also contain cocoa solids from chocolate liquor, which is found in all chocolate except white chocolate.
White chocolate contains cocoa butter but not cocoa solids, so it may have a slight chocolate flavor but cannot be defined, according to the FDA, as chocolate. Sad but true, for those of you who love white chocolate. Since cocoa butter is the fat part of the chocolate almost all of the health benefits derived from chocolate are not present in white chocolate.
The cocoa bean contains both cocoa solids and cocoa butter. Both are found in real chocolate, but only cocoa butter is used to make white chocolate.
Dark Chocolate Can Be Classified as a Health Food
Really It is True
What other treat that you have come to love since childhood can be classified as a health food? Not many, I am sure. Chocolate can't either unless you are using dark chocolate. If you are a dark chocolate eater here is why you should continue or if you are not why you should start.
I must add a little caveat because dark chocolate has calories. If you are worried about gaining weight you still have to eat dark chocolate in moderation. But it still has benefits whether you are watching your weight or not. Dark chocolate has those great compounds known as flavonoids and healthy antioxidants. Flavonoids help protect your cells from the those bad free radicals you keep hearing about that can wreck havoc on your body and cause heart problems. Not only do flavonoids protect your heart they also lower blood pressure, which in turn protects you against heart disease and stroke. It also reduces your bad cholesterol (LDL), which can give you artery problems that can lead to heart disease.
Ever feel that chocolate makes you happy. Well dark chocolate makes you happier because it stimulates the production of endorphins and endorphins make you really happy. Dark chocolate also contains seritonin, which can be an antidepressant so if you are not depressed you are probably happy or can be if you eat dark chocolate.
Another benefit of dark chocolate is that it protects your skin by absorbing UV light. Your skin should glow when you eat dark chocolate because it also increases blood flor to the skin and hydrates that beautiful face of yours, at least after you have eaten your dark chocolate.

Your Opinion
You can argue with me if you choose to do so, but I think I have solid evidence that dark chocolate is healthy. You may think milk chocolate tastes better, but that is not the point of this debate. Dark chocolate is a health food, but milk chocolate is just a candy treat.
